The Watchful Care of Christ

Christ is always with His people, acting as a shield and deliverer. Our understanding of this truth depends on our ability to recognize the extent and strength of our adversaries, as well as the value of the treasure divinely safeguarded.

We face various assaults that only Christ can shield us from. These adversaries, both countless and unseen, are perpetually active and powerful, constantly scheming to harm us. They are the spiritual enemies of our soul and the sworn foes of our faith. The world, its alluring attractions, Satan and his cunning strategies, our own sinful tendencies, and the deceitful masks of falsehood join forces against those who follow God, hindering their pursuit of holiness.

However, Christ is always by our side, ready to protect us in times of attack and skillfully deflecting and disarming threats. Just as the words “Fear not, Abram, I am your shield!” were spoken to Abraham, they apply to all who share his precious faith.

Indeed, the Lord surrounds us. Despite the dangers that encircle us, we are also enveloped by Jesus’ constant protection. As Isaiah 41:10 reminds us, He assures us, “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

With unwavering watchfulness, divine power, and unfailing love, the Lord Jesus safeguards the work of grace within the souls of His people. He keeps the flame of faith alive, prevents love from growing cold, and preserves hope from fading. He strengthens the work of grace when it weakens, raises it when it falters, restores it when it stumbles, and sustains it through the harshest seasons. Just as Jesus surrounds us with His protective shield, He guards the work of grace that His sacrifice achieved and His Spirit continues to nurture.

Believer, even in times of doubt, the work of grace in your heart will never perish. The kingdom of righteousness, peace, and joy within your soul is indestructible. “They shall never perish!” declares the Shepherd who redeemed you with His blood. You are under the watchful care of Christ and the preserving power of God.
