This is a quick 50-second reminder that we need to prepare our hearts for worship.
So often, you’ll hear someone say, “You know, I just don’t get anything out of that church,” or “I sat through that service, and I did not get anything out of it.” The question I always want to ask when I hear that is, “What did you put into it?” because that’s what we’re called to do.
We’re not called to get something out of it. We’re called to put into it, and if we didn’t get anything out of the sermon, it may have legitimately been a poor sermon, but it also may have been the fact that we did nothing to prepare our hearts for the sermon. If we spent all Saturday night staying up too late watching a show that was filled with profanity and sexual immorality, what do you expect to come to church in the morning and get out of it?

There’s a reason there are 15 Psalms dedicated to preparing for worship.

I’m going to start a Sunday series on those “Psalms of Ascent.” Wanted to thank you for the inspiration.
